Postdoctoral position (m/f/d) in Experimental Hemato-Oncology

Experimental Hemato-Oncology
DFG-funded Clinical Research Unit: CATCH ALL

(PI: Prof. Dr. Claudia Baldus)

Start in our team

We are looking for a committed, inquisitive team player to start as soon as possible in our interdisciplinary research group focused on functional genomics of acute leukemias, limited for 4 years.

The position is available in the newly extended DFG-funded Clinical Research Unit CATCH ALL: Towards a Cure for Adults and Children with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Clinical and basic researchers join efforts in this interdisciplinary initiative to define mechanisms of leukemogenesis and treatment resistance across age groups. The final aim is to devise novel molecular and immunotherapeutic treatment strategies.

What we offer:

  • The salary will be based on the German E13 TV-L scale (100 %) if terms and conditions under collective bargaining law are fulfilled.
  • A full-time employment, currently 38.5 hours/week; a part-time employment may be possible within the framework of certain working time models
  • You are working in a friendly team with open communication and cooperation culture with an innovative, well-equipped and scientifically stimulating environment.
  • You can find more attractive UKSH benefits here: Benefits (uksh.de)

Your role:

  • Your project is focused on dissecting oncogenic driver networks and the role of the immune environment in high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia
  • To this end you will explore high dimensional data sets of adult and pediatric acute leukemias (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, clinical annotations) to identify and functionally validate oncogenic and therapeutic vulnerabilities
  • You will be part of a multi-disciplinary research group of clinical and basic science investigators working within national consortia to elucidate leukemogenic mechanisms and to develop target-specific therapies for acute leukemia patients
  • We are looking for competent and professional support to join our team for integrative analyses on large-scale sequencing data sets of acute leukemia patients to better define the molecular makeup of leukemia subtypes and to identify targetable leukemogenic drivers.

Your profile:

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced postdoctoral researcher with a doctoral degree (PhD / Dr. rer. nat.) in Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics or in Bio-/informatics
  • Experience in cell biological and molecular genetic techniques – preferentially in the context of cancer research or immunology are required
  • Experience in CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, NGS library preparation and analysis of high-dimensional data sets (PLAC-Seq, RNA-Seq, DNA-methylation profiling) are appreciated, but can also be acquired in the research group
  • You will extend established analysis workflows on large ALL transcriptome data sets and proficient with R or Python and associated bioinformatics packages (e.g. Bioconductor) to conduct bioinformatics workflows on Unix/Linux and HPC environments (slurm etc) with hands-on experience in analyzing large scale biomedical data sets (bulk RNAseq, single cell RNAseq, methylation, etc.)
  • Solid command of the English language is essential, while proficiency in German is not a prerequisite.
