Post-doctoral position (m/f/d) in „Metabolic microbiome modelling"
Research Group Medical Systems Biology, Institute of Experimental Medicine
The Research Group Medical Systems Biology, based at the Institute of Experimental Medicine, leverages systems biological approaches from the field of constraint-based metabolic modelling to integrate diverse molecular data sets. Our goal is to deepen the understanding of the microbiome’s role in host health and disease, and to explore its potential as a therapeutic target in treating human diseases.
Start in our Team
We are looking for professional and competent support to start as soon as possible, limited for 3 years with the possibility of a further extension.
What we offer:
- The salary will be based on the German E13 TV-L scale (100%), if terms and conditions under collective bargaining law are fulfilled
- A full-time employment, currently 38.5 hours/week; a part-time employment may be possible within the framework of certain working time models
- An excellent research environment in Kiel, located on the shores of the Baltic Sea
- A family-friendly working environment, with a commitment to improving work-life balance
- You can find more attractive UKSH benefits here: Benefits (uksh.de)
Your role:
- As part of our interdisciplinary research group, you will take responsibility for the integrative analysis of large-scale experimental data sets (microbiome, transcriptomics, metabolomics, and genomics) in the context of microbiome-host interactions
- Your work will involve the application of constraint-based metabolic modeling approaches to elucidate the pathways through which the microbiome influences host health, and to explore how these interactions shift in disease states
- While your primary focus will be on chronic inflammatory diseases, your research will also extend to more general principles of microbiome-host interaction principles across various model organisms
- In collaboration with our partners at the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein, the Excellence Cluster "Precision Medicine in Chronic Inflammation," and the Collaborative Research Center "Origin and Function of Metaorganisms," modeling-derived hypotheses can be validated in both experimental and clinical settings
Your profile:
- We are looking for a highly motivated PostDoc with a background in bioinformatics, systems biology, molecular biology, or a related field
- You should have strong programming skills (preferably in R and Python) and familiarity with Linux
- Experience in constraint-based metabolic modeling, next-generation sequencing data analysis (RNA-Seq, scRNA-Seq, metagenomics), and statistics is essential
- Given the international nature of our research group, excellent communication skills in English are required
We are looking forward to your application. Please submit your application until 27th November 2024, indicating the reference number 25384.
