The Junior Research Group “Epitranscriptome Regulation in Host-Microbe-Interactions” at the Institute of Clinical Molecular Biology, Kiel University and University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH), Kiel, Germany invites applications for a
PhD position in Epitranscriptomics and Infection.
The recently established research group is interested in host-microbe-interactions and focuses on epitranscriptomic modifications, i.e. posttranscriptional mRNA modifications that have been shown to be important regulators of mRNA fate (Jabs et al. 2020 Nat. Commun.).
The successful candidate will analyse the mechanisms by which pathogenic bacteria exploit host mRNA modifications to promote infection.
Your profile:
- An MSc in a discipline relevant for the project (e.g. biochemistry, biology, biotechnology, life sciences) is a prerequisite
- Great interest in cellular microbiology and host-microbe interactions is a must
- Expertise in molecular biology, cell biology and/ or microbiology is required
- Very good written and spoken English is required
We offer:
- Exciting project in the Research Group “Epitranscriptome Regulation in Host-Microbe-Interaction” applying state-of-the-art techniques (RNA-sequencing, imaging, organoid models)
- Exceptional infrastructure (NGS, bioinformatics) in the Institute of Clinical Molecular Biology (https://www.ikmb.uni-kiel.de/)
- The initial contract will start as soon as possible and runs for three years. The salary will be according to the German salary scale TV-L (PhD student 65% (25 hours per week), German TV-L E13).
